Fire

On Tuesday August 5th at 2:15pm SFD was tapped no a Wildland fire on Pleasant Hill Rd. Due to the large column of smoke and the weather conditions a 2nd alarm was called immediately. As the fire progressed another alarm was called for relief crews. This fire was contained and was in mop up stage at 3:00pm. All units had returned to their stations by 4:00pm.

While crews were cleaning up from the first fire another one was called in at the same location at 4:30pm. Upon arrival crews found that the fire they were now facing was a completely different fire at the same location. Again due to the amount of smoke and weather conditions the duty officer went to a second alarm immediately. Upon his arrival this fire was larger and he requested a third alarm quickly. The fire was contained and extinguished by 6:00pm. Both fires were in wheat stubble/wind rows and damaged approximately 45 acres according to Oregon Department of Forestry.

EMS : "Dusting" a dangerous activity

Parents if you have canned air at home you need to read this!

The act of "Dusting" is on the rise in teens. Dusting is the use of canned air to get a high by inhaling the contents of canned air.

Canned air which is used to dust is NOT actual air! It does not contain oxygen which is required to sustain life. The gas in "canned air" is heavier than air and will displace oxygen. "Dusting" is on the rise around the country and even here in Sheridan. Please be conscious of how fast your canned air is disappearing.

Please read MSNBC's report on "Dusting"
